This group covers Japanese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian and other Asian cuisines that are not Chinese, and the etiquette varies by kitchen. Japanese and Korean restaurants often take reservations for dinner and may add a service charge for large groups; Thai and Vietnamese spots are usually walk-in and quick-turnover. Spice levels are frequently adjustable on request at Thai, Indian and Sichuan-adjacent menus, so say if you want it mild or hot. Korean BBQ restaurants typically charge per person for all-you-can-eat service with a time limit, and grills are shared at the table. Vietnamese pho shops post bowl sizes (regular or large) and a plate of herbs, bean sprouts and lime is normal to add yourself. Card and tap-to-pay are widely accepted; cash-only is more common at small family-run counters.

Alpine is in New Jersey, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Alpine is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across New Jersey's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

If you are a Black family, find somewhere else to eat. We recently moved here and came in for a family meal. We were met coldly at the door and seated far from every other table in the restaurant. The host then walked away from us mid-service to seat and attend to another party who arrived after us. Then a couple was seated near us, took one look at our table, and left the restaurant. On the way out, they made racist remarks in Russian. My husband practiced medicine in Russia before we moved to the U.S. He understood all of it and responded. Not one staff member said a word about it. We waited and waited for service the entire meal. Mike, who made our food, was the exception. He was kind, he was attentive, and he was the reason the night wasn’t a total loss. I tipped him well and directly. Our server got a smaller tip because of the service she gave us. She then demanded 15% from us. The food is not the problem here. The way this restaurant treats minority guests is.

We had such a great experience at Kiku! I took my niece for hibachi and she had a blast. She was a little scared when the fire flared up, but she couldn’t stop smiling and ended up loving every minute of it. The chef was entertaining, the food was delicious, and the whole atmosphere made it a fun, memorable night. We’ll definitely be back!

I’ve been going there for probably 30 years. The food is always great. The service has always been an issue. After tonight I won’t be going back. We were stalked the entire meal by Ramen the GM. There were empty tables during my entire meal. He basically told us to finish our drinks at the bar 5 minutes after they sang happy birthday at our table. The service was off tonight. Our soup didn’t come out until the chef was already putting food on our dishes. The drinks were very slow. After our meal we were confronted just after drinks were brought to our table that we ordered while eating. Very rude. I always bring a full table of people and tip everyone well. There are plenty of other hibachi places out there, time to go back to mt Fuji. I’m sure they will appreciate people eating and drinking and having a good time.
